Sonette Magnus of Thompson Coburn LLP Selected as One of ABI's 2023 "40 Under 40"

Alexandria, Va. ABI announces that Sonette Magnus of Thompson Coburn LLP (St. Louis) has been selected as one of ABI’s “40 Under 40,” ABI’s award program that recognizes 40 of the top insolvency industry professionals under the age of 40. The honorees will be recognized at a special ceremony on Dec. 1 at ABI’s 2023 Winter Leadership Conference at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Magnus is a partner with Thompson Coburn LLP and represents clients across a wide spectrum of industries during pre-suit evaluation, discovery, mediation, expert witness preparation, trial preparation and, when advisable, trial. She represents lenders in receiverships, as well as chapter 11 restructurings, liquidations in DIP financing, and plan negotiations. Magnus also represents clients in complex commercial disputes, and she counsels clients on efficiently resolving contract issues. A Toronto native raised by immigrant parents, she serves as Canada’s Honorary Consul for the greater St. Louis area as part of the U.S. State Department and Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (Global Affairs Canada), an appointment with bi-national duties. In this role, Magnus interacts with local businesses, chambers of commerce and government officials to identify opportunities for collaboration and trade between Canada and Missouri, particularly in the agriculture, biotech, energy and services sectors. Magnus is an advisory board member for the Emory Bankruptcy Developments Journal, a trustee for the Federal Practice Memorial Trust for the Eastern District of Missouri, a member of the Federal Bar Association and the St. Louis Consular Corps, and an executive board member of the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, through which she has helped raise $100,000 to fund the distribution of essential items to those in need.

“The members of the 2023 class are an inspiration for the commitment, creativity and ingenuity that they demonstrate in both their careers and communities,” said ABI Executive Director Amy Quackenboss. “This diverse collection of honorees is comprised of future leaders that will drive ABI and the insolvency community forward.”

The “40 Under 40” winners are distinguished by professional achievements and service and were selected by a group of experienced professionals from ABI’s current leadership. Now in its seventh year, the goal of ABI’s “40 under 40” award program is not simply to create a one-time ceremony, but to fully engage those selected as future leaders in the insolvency profession and to build on the initiative each year.
