Alexandria, Va. ABI announces that Sasha Gurvitz of KTBS Law LLP (Los Angeles) has been selected as one of ABI’s “40 Under 40,” ABI’s annual program that recognizes 40 of the top insolvency industry professionals under the age of 40. The honorees will be recognized at a special ceremony to be held on Dec. 10 at ABI’s 2021 Winter Leadership Conference at Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.

She also has experience representing purchasers of assets, secured lenders, contract counterparties, landlords, equityholders, chapter 11 trustees, an environmental regulator and other chapter 11 stakeholders. Gurvitz is a member of the California State Bar, the Turnaround Management Association (TMA) and the Financial Lawyers Conference. She serves on the advisory board for the ABI’s Southwest Bankruptcy Conference and as a board member and Network of Women co-chair for TMA’s Southern California chapter. Gurvitz was named a Super Lawyers Rising Star for 2019, 2020 and 2021. She also has written articles for several bankruptcy publications and spoken on panels regarding bankruptcy-related topics. As co-chair of the Network of Women, Gurvitz puts on educational and networking events to provide women with leadership training and opportunities to expand their network and cultivate new skills and knowledge.

Gurvitz received her J.D. from UCLA School of Law, where she graduated tenth in her class and was admitted to the Order of the Coif. For excellence in bankruptcy coursework in law school, she was awarded the 2013 ABI Medal of Excellence. She also received the Dean’s Merit Scholarship at UCLA. Gurvitz earned her undergraduate degree in political science from the University of California, Berkeley, where she graduated with highest honors.

“The 2021 honorees are a testament to the future of the insolvency profession, with exemplary accomplishments in both their careers and communities,” said ABI Executive Director Amy Quackenboss. “We look forward to this diverse collection of young leaders propelling ABI's full range of activities forward to advance the profession.”

The “40 Under 40” winners are distinguished by professional achievements and service and were selected by a group of experienced professionals from ABI’s current leadership. Nominations were submitted earlier this year by the candidates themselves or by colleagues via the initiative’s website, http://abi40under40.org. More than 200 candidates, each with outstanding records of professional achievement and community leadership, were evaluated by 20 judges. The majority of the applicants were partners, directors or managing directors at their firms.
