Brian Schartz of Kirkland & Ellis LLP Selected as One of ABI's 2020 "40 Under 40"

Alexandria, Va. ABI announces that Brian Schartz of Kirkland & Ellis LLP (New York) has been selected as one of ABI’s “40 Under 40,” ABI’s annual program that recognizes 40 of the top insolvency industry professionals under the age of 40. Honorees will be recognized at a special virtual ceremony on February 18, 2021.

Schartz’s practice involves representing debtors (including portfolio, privately held and public companies) and distressed investors in acquisitions, out-of-court restructurings and chapter 11 cases. He also advises boards of directors and senior management of financially troubled companies regarding fiduciary duties and corporate governance. Shartz was selected as an “Outstanding Young Restructuring Lawyer” by Turnarounds & Workouts in 2019, was listed as a “Notable Practitioner” in the 2019 and 2020 editions of IFLR1000, and was named a New York “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers magazine in 2014–17 for his restructuring practice. He was also recognized in 2015 by The Legal 500 U.S. for his corporate restructuring work. In May 2015, Schartz was selected as a member of the 2015 Next Generation Class for the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges. He received his J.D. from the New York University School of Law in 2007 and his B.A. summa cum laude in government from Cornell University in 2004.

“Accomplished in both their careers and communities, the 2020 class of honorees is an inspiration for the future of the insolvency community,” said ABI Executive Director Amy Quackenboss. “We look forward to collaborating with this diverse collection of young leaders in the full range of ABI's activities to advance the profession.”

The “40 Under 40” winners are distinguished by professional achievements and service and were selected by a group of experienced professionals from ABI’s current leadership. Nominations were submitted earlier this year by the candidates themselves or by colleagues via the initiative’s website, http://abi40under40.org. More than 200 candidates, each with outstanding records of professional achievement and community leadership, were evaluated by 20 judges. The majority of the applicants were partners, directors or managing directors at their firms.
